La Sportiva Cyprus 'Mountain Madness' Series
Race No 2 -- Madari 23km
Sunday April 26, 2015
The second event of the La Sportiva Cyprus Mountain Madness trail race series 2015 was held on Sunday April 26.
All agreed, it was a tough route -- but all also agreed that they will remember this race for a long time to come. This was the most demanding challenge of this year's 5-race La Sportiva Cyprus Mountain Madness series. We don't apologise for the route: we took runners on a hurdy-gurdy adventure that dropped from the heights of the Madari lookout station to the depths of Kannavia village, and then made them haul themselves out of the valley back up to the heights of the Adventure Mountain Park. Some said 'never again' -- others said, 'when is the next race'? That is what the La Sportiva Mountain Madness series is all about. We don't want just to hold a foot race in the mountains that rewards the fast, the fit and the furious. Our aim is to create a mountain experience for everyone who takes part -- an adventure that ultimately expands the joy of running and at the same time explores the primal need to be out alone in the universe, being humbled by it and at the same time being in awe of its magnificent beauty. We believe that all 33 runners who set off into the mountains in this race found themselves challenged as runners but at the same time inspired by the greatness of the natural world they were adventuring through. An awfully long, lonely way from their comfort zones. But extremely close encounters of the mystical kind :)
PRIZES AND SURPRISES: The first man and first woman home each won cool Buff® headwear donated by GET OUT adventure sports store in Nicosia, while all finishers received our special custom-designed beautiful Buff® headwear (pictured below).
